Further to my last post – all our trainees passed their examination last weekend and are now City and Guilds qualified. You can see the results of their training along the right hand side of the Liphook to Haslemere Road – a lot of birch has been thinned between the fire gate and Lynchmere turning. Suitable wood is stacked in piles for firewood (log day) and charcoal making while the brash has been burnt.

We now have another team available for felling in the next felling season – sadly they will have to keep their chainsaws under wraps soon as the nesting season starts soon.

In the meantime they will try and work their way through all the fallen trees on the common – Mark counted at least 70.

We have also had Merrist Wood College students felling pine as part of their course recently.
